The culture at the time of Muhammad

Approximately in the VIII–IX centuries the region from the Nile to the Amu Darya has changed markedly, even if not to take into account the impact of Islam.

Perhaps when the new Sasanian dynasty of Persia could inherit Syria and Egypt (if not the entire Maghreb) directly from the Roman Empire. Moreover, in the Empire could develop a culture in the Syrian language (Aramaic) and Pahlavi (Iranian), which is a little different from the one that arose among the Muslim Arabs and Persians.

Assimilation of the ancient cultures giving birth to new civilization

These cultures could be disseminated widely throughout the Old world. Note that some elements of the Iranian and Semitic traditions really penetrated into Europe and India. However, it is difficult to imagine that the Syrian-Plevitskaya tradition where something could develop closer and brighter than in Islam. It is likely that Arab tribes were able to establish a new dynasty and become the heirs of the Sassanids. But in this case they would have to assimilate into the settled people, and forget about the original Bedouin poetry, go to Aramaic and maybe even take some form of Christianity.

Only one detail – the existence of Islam gave birth to a new civilization, uniting the scattered population of the region in a single religious community.

The most important elements on which The Islamized civilization is built was  the Islamic religion and its adherents in the community. This is the result of several colorful characters, most important of which was, of course, Muhammad.

Initially, the community was based on Arab culture, then through a number of successful conquests is a community spread among Aramaic and Arab populations, and even beyond their habitat. Inside the community there was a sharp disagreement over the forms of religion. In this case the competing parties waged a relentless struggle.

The Muslim religion and the community arising from this struggle, are not amenable to the standard description. In the end, Islam bears the stamp of critical thinking and sincere devotion, by which it was formed .

The culture of the Bedouins at the time of Muhammad

Between the Roman and Sasanian Empire, particularly in matters of war and Commerce, always stood Bedouin Arabia. It was not just the Arabian Peninsula as such. Bedouin Arabia is the territory of the Peninsula, whose population adheres to the customs of the nomads the camel drivers. This is mainly Northern, Western and Central region.

Here is dominated by arid steppe zone, virtually all covered with rocks and sand. Rare winter and spring precipitation are the cause of sparse vegetation. Places meet the oases are isolated fertile Islands, where groundwater is close to the surface and provide more or less sufficient irrigation. Vegetation after seasonal precipitation, springs and artificial wells helped the breeders to breed the animals, which gave meat and milk. Cereal and other agricultural products were grown in areas of oases. Farmers of the oases, surrounded by desert, were obtaining from pastoralists the necessary animals and various goods. This way of life implied the use of domesticated camels, without these animals it would be impossible to form in the desert large-scale farming.
